Maintaining your independence

In most cases, retirees are reluctant to move into a retirement estate in fear that they would lose their independence. A UK study revealed that 97% of the elderly do not want to move into residential care when they are older, instead they prefer a ‘person-centred’ care delivered to their home.

At the very basic level, independence is about having full control over your own life. While this does become challenging later in life, independence is very difficult to just let go of. We understand this, and as such have created an environment that doesn’t limit your independence, but rather encourages you to maintain it.

After extensive research, Shoreline Sibaya has committed to providing residents with an incredible sense of security. In this respect, residents will be surrounded by state-of-the-art security from the moment you drive through the boom gates to your apartment, where a health-call button has been installed that is connected to both the guard hut and the care centre. The Sibaya Coastal Precinct adds an extra layer of security through its managed environment with patrol vehicles and CCTVs. The other layer of security is through our employees of Shoreline Sibaya, who have all been trained to conduct basic first aid, if the need arises.

The design of the estate has centred around helping residents maintain an active social lifestyle with landscaped gardens, a community centre that will provide facilities such as a fully equipped gym, a kitchen, an internet café corner, a quiet reading area, a heated swimming pool, a social lounge area and an outdoor braai area.

The MyCare Centre will provide tailor-made, reliable care to residents to ensure they have the necessary care in place should they need it. These services range from annual health check-ups to companionship, basic wound dressing and assistance with daily living. Additionally, residents have the option of home-based care where a carer can take care of them in the comfort of their apartment. The apartments can also be easily converted to become an easy living infrastructure, should the need arise. The key differentiator is that residents can be in control of the type of care they receive, which can be adapted over time, when they are ready.

Shoreline Sibaya wants you to feel in control of every aspect of your life, and hopes the design of the estate helps you maintain a high quality of life, and most important, your independence.
